Future: It is possible to achieve the goal of a 70 percent reduction in CO2 emissions with existing technologies, especially with more solar and wind, says Brian Vad Mathiesen, professor of energy planning at Aalborg University.
It’s all about will and investment power.
So short is the answer when you ask Brian Vad Mathiesen what it takes for Denmark to reach the climate target for 2030. According to the professor from Aalborg University, it is possible to achieve the 70 percent reduction of greenhouse gases if we want to invest massively in renewable energy sources:
“We need to invest in thinking about the energy system smarter, and at the same time we need to electrify much more. We need to get green electricity into our industry and into district heating, and then we need to have more individual heat pumps. It is necessary for the energy system of the future that it is based on renewable energy sources,” says Brian Vad Mathiesen.
Another element of the energy system of the future is the electrification of the transport sector:
“It is very likely that all passenger transport will be electric – all light passenger transport. When it comes to trucks, 30-40 percent – maybe half – can be electrified,” says Brian Vad Mathiesen.
