Challenge
The challenge involves digitalising machines for liquid handling with autonomous sensors that can be installed inexpensively. The sensors must be wireless in terms of both power supply and data transmission.
Solution idea
The purpose of this project is to develop a product that can produce energy savings during machine operation. Optimising energy consumption for machinery requires large volumes of sensor data. Unlike existing sensors, the sensors we will develop will be autonomous, requiring no batteries, battery changes, or power cables. This will additionally make them inexpensive and easy to install. At the same time, it will be possible to monitor machine operation and perform preventative maintenance before a breakdown occurs. These characteristics together make the product appealing for industrial use.
Project deliverables
The deliverable for this project is a prototype of the autonomous sensor, based on thermal energy harvesting technology. Adaptation of TEGnology’s existing compact energy harvesting platform — sensors for Alfa Laval’s decanters, pumps, and heat exchangers. The new prototype will be tested and modularised with standard components, making it possible for the sensors to be integrated in new and existing machines alike.

Problem solvers
This project is financed by Energy Cluster Denmark’s Promoting Innovation in Green Energy Technology (FIE, from the Danish initials) support programme. It offers three years of support to allow small- and medium-sized businesses to collaboratively develop innovative electronic products focused on energy optimisation. The FIE project is supported by the European Regional Development Fund.
