Port of Hanstholm

Port of Hanstholm is Denmark's leading commercial fishing port and is home to Denmark's largest fish auction.

The port was inaugurated in 1967 and celebrated its 50th anniversary in the autumn of 2017. Although this makes Hanstholm Denmark's youngest port, the willpower and courage to create success despite obstacles along the way have secured Port of Hanstholm a prominent position among Danish fishing ports.

The current Port of Hanstholm is an international textbook example of good engineering, but there is a need to future-proof the facilities. Therefore, Hanstholm Port will have a completed port expansion by the end of 2020, which includes, among other things, a new entrance to the northeast, increased water depth, a new basin, new hinterland areas and increased quay area.

Port of Hanstholm creates around 2,300 jobs locally in Thisted Municipality, of which approx. 1,000 people are directly employed at or on the port, while approximately 1,300 are employed in derived industries.

An expansion of Port of Hanstholm means that the port's role as an important driving force in the business development of Thisted Municipality will be strengthened, as will the conditions for commercial fishing and the fishing industry.

It is expected that around 450 new jobs will be created in the years after the port expansion is completed.
