About the project
Challenge:
The "100% Sustainable vacation Home" project aims to motivate Danish holiday homeowners, through a series of concrete activities, to make their homes more energy-efficient and climate-friendly. This would enable them to offer and market an accommodation product that contributes to more sustainable tourism in Denmark.
A typical holiday home features electric radiators, electric underfloor heating, electric water heaters, wood-burning stoves, and heat pumps, but lacks any system to optimize the use of these various energy sources. The vast majority of holiday homes were built in the 1970s and 1980s, prior to the implementation of energy requirements for construction. Therefore, there is significant potential for energy optimization.
Solution:
The "100% Sustainable vacation Home" project includes the following main activities:
- Mapping the sustainability of Danish holiday homes.
- Conducting a GAP analysis and developing shared sustainability parameters.
- Developing solution models for the green transition of Danish holiday homes.
The project will conduct a mapping of the sustainability of Danish holiday homes and, based on this, establish criteria, goals, and solutions for how these homes can, by 2030, increasingly meet the demand for sustainable holiday accommodation while satisfying owners, renters, and rental agencies.
The project will also develop a concrete solution for an intuitive and intelligent energy management system accessible to renters. This system will simultaneously reduce energy consumption in Danish holiday homes.
