100% sustainable holiday homes

Challenge

Project 100% sustainable holiday home wants through a number of concrete activities to motivate the Danish holiday home owners to make their holiday homes more energy efficient and climate friendly and in this way be able to offer and market an overnight product that contributes to a more sustainable tourism in Denmark.

A typical holiday home contains: electric radiators, electric underfloor heating, electric hot water tank, wood stove and heat pump, but no control that optimizes these many energy sources. The vast majority of the holiday homes were built in the 1970s and 1980s, ie at a time before energy requirements were seriously set in connection with construction. There is therefore great potential for energy optimization.

Solution

The project 100% sustainable holiday home has the following main activities:

  • Mapping the sustainability of Danish holiday homes.
  • GAP analysis and development of common sustainability parameters.
  • Establishment of solution models for green conversion of the Danish holiday homes.

The project will carry out a mapping of the Danish holiday homes’ sustainability and on this basis set criteria, goals and solutions for how the Danish holiday homes can match the demand for sustainable holiday homes to the greatest possible extent by 2030, and at the same time satisfy both owners, tenants and rental agencies. The project will therefore create a concrete solution for an easy-to-understand and intelligent energy management system, which can be accessed by the house’s tenants, which at the same time reduces the energy consumption in the Danish holiday homes.
