About the project
Challenge
Small and medium-sized CO₂ emitters need flexible and cost-effective solutions for transporting and temporarily storing captured CO₂. For many, pipelines or specialised storage infrastructure are too costly, making it difficult to connect to emerging CCS infrastructure.
At the same time, intelligent and modular container systems need to be validated to ensure that they can operate safely and reliably under different conditions and handle resources such as CO₂, water and fuel.
Solution
The project develops a digital twin of Carbon Connect’s intelligent ISO tank container. The virtual model is used to test and validate the container’s components, sensors, automation and control systems before a physical demonstration unit is built.
The digital twin will simulate the transport and handling of liquid CO₂ as well as applications involving water and fuel. By stress-testing the system under different operating and climate conditions, the project will optimise the technology and create the foundation for a scalable solution for both CO₂ logistics and security of supply.
