Baltic Energy Island – Increased Innovation Power in SMEs

Challenge
Denmark has decided that Bornholm will play a central role in the green transition as the Baltic Sea’s hub for offshore wind. The ambition is also for Bornholm to serve as a test island for companies, students, and researchers who want to work on climate-friendly solutions that benefit growth and development.

To support this ambition, more small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Denmark need to be guided toward innovation projects and development activities so they can contribute to enhancing Bornholm’s green profile.

Solution
Baltic Energy Island – Increased Innovation Power in SMEs is a project in the second phase of the Bornholm business lighthouse, one of several regional lighthouse projects in Denmark. The project is one of three business lighthouse projects under the Baltic Energy Island organization.

During the program, small and medium-sized enterprises will participate in five innovation processes. Here, they will engage in innovation-oriented activities and develop concepts for new products and services, leading to investments and growth in relation to the multi-billion investments taking place with Energy Island Bornholm and the further expansion of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea.

The involvement of these companies will help make Bornholm a hub for the development, testing, and demonstration of green energy while also increasing business potential.

To achieve the desired results, the project has assembled a strong consortium of partners who bring unique competencies and networks into play.
