About the project
Challenge
Today, the cost of wave power plants is high. The majority of the existing plants are created from expensive steel structures that require ongoing maintenance. Concrete is a new material in wave power, which developers are looking at with great interest.
Concrete is an inexpensive, flexible and accessible material that requires a minimum of maintenance. Until now, however, the use of concrete at sea has been about non-floating structures, such as harbor piers or foundations for offshore wind turbines. In other words, experience with floating structures in concrete for wave power is limited – despite great potential.
Idea for solution
The partners in Concrete for wave energy have developed a guide that can be used in the development of future wave power plants. The guide is based on the experiences from two concrete wave power plants, which, among other things, use high-strength concrete as part of the construction and thus information about floating pontoons in concrete for wave power plants. The project forms the basis for future wave power plants, where project partners want to use liquid concrete.
