About the project

Challenge

Hydrogen measurement sensors generally face challenges with relatively long response times (30-90 seconds), which can be critical in safety-sensitive applications, such as in PtX facilities. To improve safety and enable optimal operation of PtX facilities, it is necessary to have hydrogen measurements as close to real-time as possible.

The outer protective layer of the sensors is important for long-term stability in harsh industrial environments, but it also limits the speed of the response times that can be achieved.

Solution

SulfiLogger has developed a new microsensor technology platform that can serve as the foundation for ultra-fast (<1 second) hydrogen sensors, which would revolutionize the safety aspects surrounding hydrogen and PtX. The outer protective layer of the sensors is important for long-term stability in harsh industrial environments, but it also limits the speed of response times. The solution is to test new protective methods and technologies from Danish Graphene in collaboration with Aarhus University and validate whether it is possible to achieve appropriate environmental protection while maintaining fast reaction times.

Impact

  • Reduction of response time by 90-99% compared to state-of-the-art sensors
  • Frequent hydrogen measurements will increase the uptime of PtX facilities by up to 2%
