About the project
The purpose of the Danish-Austrian HEATflex project is to develop a common technical and economic strategy for the utilisation of excess heat.
Challenge
How can heat from other processes, such as in industry, data centres, and supermarket refrigeration systems, be best utilised to facilitate a flexible district heating network that benefits all parties involved? What opportunities exist for utilising surplus heat in a district heating network, who has relevant experience in this area, and how can we promote best practices in Europe?
Solution idea
This project involves the development of a common technical and economic strategy for the utilisation of surplus heat whiel also creating opportunities for a flexible district heating network that benefits all parties involved.

- Website development (HEATflex.dk)
- Development of a common technical and economic strategy for utilisation of excess heat
- Develop practical guidelines for flexibility in centrally and non-centrally generated heat (technical, economic, legal, implementation, business models)
- Roadmap for implementation, planning, and construction of flexible a district heating system
- Preparation of a toolbox with good examples of guidelines
