About the project

Challenge

CO2 and hydrogen transport through pipelines is a key enabler for more CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage) in Denmark, as everything indicates that there will be a need to transport larger quantities of CO2 and hydrogen over longer distances.

Solution

This project will, through technical and economic feasibility studies, clarify the potential and challenges of this form of CO2 and hydrogen transport. The transport will be linked to potential PtX consumers in order to assess the potential for future pipeline infrastructure for PtX production in Northern Jutland.

Impact

By being able to store up to 10,000 tons of hydrogen and then distribute it via pipelines, it will become possible for connected companies (e.g., industry or ports) to have "green hydrogen on demand," which will create countless opportunities for the production of green fuels and chemicals, with significant positive growth and employment effects as a result.

The project is part of the Northern Jutland business hub, CO2Vision, which is managed by a consortium consisting of Energy Cluster Denmark, Erhvervshus Nordjylland, Aalborg University, Aalborg Portland A/S, Arbejdsmarkedskontor Midt/Nord, Business Region North Denmark, Green Hub Denmark, EVIDA, and the North Denmark EU Office.

CO2Vision is funded by REACT-EU funds.
