About the project

Challenge

Noise from string inverters can make it difficult to install solar parks in or near noise-sensitive areas. This can delay projects, increase costs or, in some cases, prevent new solar capacity from being deployed.

At the same time, it is technically challenging to reduce noise from large inverters without compromising cooling performance. Excessive temperatures can affect inverter operation, efficiency and warranty conditions, creating a need for a solution that addresses both acoustics and thermal management.

Solution

The project develops and tests HushBox Solar Universal – a universal noise-reduction enclosure for PV string inverters in the 100–500 kW range. The solution combines acoustic attenuation with a new low-energy airflow concept designed to ensure sufficient cooling without derating.

The project includes modelling, design and full-scale testing of a prototype at MaxSolar in Germany. The aim is to document a noise reduction of at least 15 dB(A) while keeping the inverter within the manufacturer’s temperature limits and ensuring stable operation under realistic conditions.
