About the project

Challenge

The goal of this project is to demonstrate and test key components of the logistics part of an offshore bunkering system based on a buoy design. This will enable deep-sea vessels to be refueled with hydrogen, which is produced from green electricity from nearby offshore wind turbines.

Due to changes in the original assumptions for the project, with a significant reduction in funding from 8.3 million DKK to a total of 3.3 million DKK, the project cannot be completed under the original assumptions. Therefore, only partial elements of the project, as outlined below, will be carried out, and the entire coupling and testing phase will not be possible.

Solution

The project is limited to looking at the downstream part of the hydrogen pressure tank, specifically at the flexible pipe's flange and its coupling to the buoy. Both the male and female parts of the coupling will be studied, along with the pressurization of hydrogen from the electrolysis process to the desired storage pressure. The system is initially a Single Anchor Loading design, and the pipe is an unbonded offshore flexible pipe. This design will be verified in the project.
