About the project

Challenge
Based on European Energy’s Kassø PtX plant in Aabenraa Municipality, the HyFleX project aims to establish a hydrogen storage facility and an associated hydrogen compressor with a hydrogen storage capacity of 10 tons, in connection with the expansion of the production capacity of the existing methanol plant by adding 10 MW of new electrolysis.

Solution
The partners in HYFLEX - Flexible Hydrogen Storage for Power-to-X and Grid Optimization will demonstrate a higher utilization rate of the power production directly from the already existing solar park, optimize the operation of the PtX[1] plant, and ensure optimal balancing of the facility in relation to the public electricity grid.

In collaboration with EMD, the simulation tool energyPRO will be further developed to better support the optimization of PtX plants—from project development to operation.

The project will also develop and implement competency-oriented initiatives directly related to the South Jutland PtX value chains, building the skills of students and matching them with the SME supplier network within the PtX sector.
