Challenge
To "kickstart" the adoption of green hydrogen for heavy-duty zero-emission road transport in Denmark, the development and demonstration of high-capacity hydrogen refueling stations must be further tested and validated in a real-world operational environment. This includes utilizing the first prototypes of heavy-duty vehicles, which play a pivotal role in this transition.
Project Solution
By leveraging the 20 MW electrolyzer and the established infrastructure in the HySynergy project in Central Jutland—currently under construction and expected to become Europe’s largest facility of its kind by the end of 2022—this project will develop and demonstrate a high-capacity dual-pressure hydrogen refueling station directly at the designated test site. The site will be integrated with hydrogen production and the multi-ton buffer system.
Impact of the Project
- Establishment of a test site directly connected to a large-scale PtX facility.
- Planning of a hydrogen distribution pipeline from the PtX facility to the refueling station, including stakeholder collaboration.
- Enabling a centrally located national demonstration and validation site for new heavy-duty hydrogen vehicles in real-world use cases, supporting the development of fuel technologies and applications such as PtX fuel distribution, infrastructure services, and broader operator trials.
- Gaining critical operational experience from the technology demonstration of both fuel and vehicles.
- Facilitating the first validation and optimization of heavy-duty hydrogen refueling with Danish-developed technology, aligning with the ongoing specification of the new HD fueling protocol SAE J2601-3.
