INNOWIND India

Challenge

The Indian government has set a target for renewable energy for the coming years: 175 GW by 2022 (approx. 90 GW by the end of 2020) and 500 GW by 2030 and a long-term target of net zero emissions by 2070. India’s ambition will also force the country to investigate implementing various types of renewables, and especially wind power plays an increasing role in the Indian electricity matrix. Offshore wind, in combination with solar power and onshore wind, is expected to play an increasing role in India’s green transition. Adding offshore Wind to the electricity mix would potentially provide India with a better round-the-clock clean power resource and add resource diversification benefits, which is particularly important at a time when the security of electricity supply is at risk. However, there are several requirements not currently established and are needed to unlock the potential for offshore wind in India, such as developing the local supply chain, logistics, port infrastructure and grid infrastructure.

Solutions

To support the offshore wind venture in India, this project will identify and facilitate opportunities for innovation and industry-led collaborations for offshore wind development in India, based on the transfer and positioning of Danish best practices, know-how, and innovative services and solutions to the Indian market.

Establish cluster-to-cluster collaboration on the energy innovation ecosystem between Energy Cluster Denmark (ECD) and the Energy Consortium at Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) with the participation of relevant public and private stakeholders of both countries.

Identify and prepare Danish wind energy suppliers of innovative services and technologies for the India Offshore Wind market.

Matchmake the experienced Danish suppliers across the entire offshore wind industry value-chain based on Denmark’s + 20 years of experience in this field with the emerging and incipient Indian offshore wind industry – with a focus on supply chain development and ports infrastructure.

The project will create a foundation for the future export of Danish offshore wind technology and services to India and strengthen Denmark’s government-to-government cooperation through public-private partnerships.
