Membrane may reduce discharges into the sea

Challenge

H2S scavengers are needed in a large part of the oil and gas industry, where these chemicals are added to the product to bind hydrogen sulphide (H2S). However, both H2S scavengers that respond to H2S ( = excited scavengers) and those that do not are problematic to discharge into the water.

Solution idea

A newly developed membrane must be able to catch both types of H2S scavengers and prevent their discharge into the water. In addition, the membrane must separate excited scavengers from those scavengers that have not responded to H2S.

This will make it possible to recycle scavengers and thus reduce chemical consumption considerably.
