MissionGreenFuels – On a mission to accelerate green fuels

MissionGreenFuels is one of four green government-supported Innomissions funded through Innovation Fund Denmark and is led by a secretariat under Aalborg University in collaboration with the Danish Center for Energy Storage and Energy Cluster Denmark.

More than 140 organisations are part of the MissionGreenFuels partnership. Together, they work to accelerate the development and deployment of sustainable green fuels for hard-to-abate sectors, such as shipping and aviation, where direct electrification is insufficient.

The partnership supports research, development, and demonstration projects across the green fuels value chain. The goal is to drive technological breakthroughs, improve regulatory frameworks, enhance community engagement, and strengthen Denmark’s position as a global frontrunner in sustainable fuel solutions.

A clear roadmap for the green fuels transition

The MissionGreenFuels roadmap provides a comprehensive and action‑oriented overview of how Denmark can accelerate the development and deployment of green fuels towards 2030 and 2050. Developed in close collaboration with industry, research institutions, and policymakers, the roadmap brings together technology pathways, infrastructure needs, market conditions, and regulatory frameworks.

Innomissions

The EU funds four green, mission-driven research and innovation partnerships that unite the country’s top researchers, businesses, and organizations to position Denmark as a leader in sustainability. These partnerships focus on carbon capture and utilization (CCUS), Power-to-X, climate- and environmentally-friendly agriculture and food production, and circular economy initiatives targeting plastics and textiles.
