About the project

Challenge

Inefficient management of air handling/ventilation

Solution

A large part of the energy used in buildings today goes towards air handling, which includes ventilation and cooling/heating of the air through a heat pump. Ventilation is crucial for achieving a good indoor climate and has a significant impact on learning and productivity.

By using frequency converters to control the fans in ventilation systems and the compressor in the heat pump, significant energy savings are achieved. This is because the capacity can be adjusted according to demand, and it also allows for the use of more efficient motor types.

NextGenVentDrivesConcept develops and demonstrates conceptual solutions for the next generation of frequency converters in ventilation systems. These solutions use the latest digital and power electronics knowledge and technology to address many of the challenges related to the broader adoption of frequency converters in HVAC systems. This leads to further reductions in energy consumption and provides the opportunity for systems to be integrated into larger energy systems.
