About the project

Challenge

Local energy communities are connecting increasing numbers of energy assets such as solar PV, EV chargers, batteries and heat pumps. This creates greater flexibility but also increases the system’s dependence on digital communication between individual devices.

Many local communication protocols provide limited protection against cyberattacks. Manipulated measurements or control signals can therefore affect the physical operation and stability of energy assets.

Solution

PowerSentinel develops the foundation for an embedded security layer capable of detecting cyberattacks and unsafe behaviour across communication, physical devices and power electronics. The solution is designed as software integrated into NEOGRID’s local gateway and activated when faults or suspicious behaviour are detected.

The project will map vulnerabilities in the Fælledby energy community and design the technical PowerSentinel architecture. The aim is to enable solar PV, EV chargers and battery systems to remain in safe and stable operation even if communication is compromised.
