About the project

Challenge

Power electronics are essential for applications such as EV charging, wind turbines, solar PV, battery storage and industrial electrification. However, ensuring electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) remains a time-consuming and costly part of developing new products.

Today, developers often rely on repeated physical prototypes and laboratory tests. If a product produces excessive electromagnetic interference, it must be redesigned and tested again, increasing development time and cost.

Solution

The project expands APECS-Lab into a cloud-based solution for simulating and optimising three-phase power electronics. A digital model will predict electromagnetic interference and automatically identify suitable EMC filter designs based on performance, cost and compliance requirements.

The solution will enable thousands of design alternatives to be evaluated virtually, reducing the need for physical prototypes and repeated laboratory testing. The models will be validated against measurements in Aalborg University’s EMC laboratory.
