About the project

Challenge

Dynamic operation of PtX process plants with the aim of economic optimization, including integrating the control strategy into an overall software solution (GFCS).

Solution

The purpose of the project is to develop a test environment for control software for PtX process plants. In the first phase of the project, a case is created based on Southern Jutland, where the current level of digitization for energy producers and consumers is mapped in relation to the introduction of a PtX process plant. Requirements for sensors and integration with the database system are mapped. In the second phase of the project, the control strategy for a PtX plant is developed and tested virtually. The control strategy is developed based on a mathematical model that describes the dominant dynamic conditions for the PtX process plant.

Impact

By proving the economic benefits of the model, we expect to be able to use the developed model in our operational software, thereby bringing the economic aspect of energy flows directly to the energy market through the PtX plant we deliver. This could potentially create a very dynamic energy trading system that, regardless of technology, energy mix, and tariffs, always maximizes the economic benefit of a PtX plant.

The solution is tested based on the test environment developed in the first phase of the project, and GFCS will be advanced from TRL3 to TRL4 by the end of the project.
