Vessel Access

Challenge

Offshore wind companies have previously used various types of bridge and access equipment for offshore wind turbines. The lack of standardization posed a safety risk to the technicians working offshore and posed a significant cost to the wind industry.

Solution

The project partners created a common standard for the bridge and access equipment that the wind industry uses when ships dock at an offshore wind turbine and the technicians go over to the turbine.

The new standard reduces costs for the manufacturers of the equipment and for the subcontractors who ship the technicians to the turbine.
