About the project

Challenge

Companies in the offshore wind sector have previously used various types of bridge and access equipment for offshore wind turbines. The lack of standardization posed a safety risk for the technicians working offshore and represented a significant cost for the wind industry.

Solution

The project partners developed a common standard for the bridge and access equipment used in the wind industry when vessels dock at an offshore wind turbine and technicians need to board the turbine.

With the new standard, costs are reduced for the manufacturers of the equipment and for the subcontractors who transport the technicians to the turbines.

Cost Reduction

  • Increased safety during the transfer of technicians from vessels to offshore wind turbines
  • Cost reduction in the servicing of offshore wind turbines
  • Cost reduction in the establishment of offshore wind turbines
