The new national energy cluster Energy Cluster Denmark will strengthen Danish energy innovation – not least in Sønderborg.
“Especially in Southern Denmark, it has been shown on several occasions what a strong collaboration and a concentrated effort in a cluster can lead to. Therefore, the establishment of an even larger and stronger energy cluster will also benefit the development of even more innovative energy companies in Southern Jutland,” Peder Østermark Andreasen, Board Chairman of Energy Cluster Denmark
Sønderborg in a new setup
In Sønderborg, there are proud traditions of working with clusters, where the cooling cluster was already established in 2006, a precursor to the strong, green energy and environmental cluster CLEAN. It is to a large extent the successful cluster work within technological solutions and new innovation in the field of energy that is launch pad for the merger of CLEAN Energi, House of Energy and Energy Innovation Cluster into a single, large national energy cluster, Energy Cluster Denmark.
“The good collaboration with the southern Danish energy companies, which the cluster organisation has been accustomed to, must be expanded and strengthened in the new setup,” says Glenda Napier, CEO of Energy Cluster Denmark.
Is to be the best in the world
The new Energy Cluster is nationwide, but its bulk will largely be in the Southern Denmark Region, where 70 percent of the 40 employees will continue to have their working day. Therefore, the cluster’s employees will still be close to the cluster work and the work on effective nationwide and locally based business initiatives based on the needs and challenges of companies.
This is also reflected in the establishment: Three of the cluster organisation’s six offices are located in Fredericia, Sønderborg and Esbjerg.
“Many of the cluster’s member companies are based in southern Denmark, and since it is company-requested innovation in close dialogue with the industry that we work with, it makes good sense to have a high concentration of employees in Southern Denmark. Also, for a national cluster organisation,” says Peder Østermark Andreasen, Board Chairman of Energy Cluster Denmark.
There is a local kick-off in the new cluster on 24 November, where existing and new members can hear about the opportunities for collaboration within innovation, about membership benefits and the opportunities to take part in a project portfolio amounting to over DKK 750 million.
The new CEO of Energy Cluster Denmark, Glenda Napier, points out that close contact with the most creative and innovative regional companies in the energy sector is absolutely crucial to ensure that Denmark remains at the forefront of energy.
“We have a current project portfolio of more than DKK 750 million, and we must, in collaboration with the members, expand it with even more projects with even more collaboration within innovation,” she says.
