Vivabolig and VisBlue Unveil Konvalvej’s New Green Flow Battery, and You’re Invited

Step into the technical room beneath the housing association at Konvalvej 47 in Aalborg, where Vivabolig’s Chairwoman Pia Hornbæk and VisBlue’s CEO Søren Bødker will officially open Vivabolig’s new green energy storage system. This 10 kW flow battery with 60 kWh capacity, developed by Danish company VisBlue, will ensure tenants have access to free, green electricity from their solar panels—even when the sun isn’t shining and energy prices in the grid are soaring.

Maximizing the benefits of solar investments
Vivabolig and VisBlue will answer the question, "How can we maximize the value of our solar panel investments?" during an exclusive tour of the technical room at Konvalvej 47 on Monday, April 22 at 2:00 PM.
The housing organization’s latest green energy initiative, a 10 kW flow battery, ensures tenants will get the most out of their solar energy investment.
The solution lies in flow batteries
Until recently, tenants had limited benefits from their solar panel investments. Most of the generated power was fed into the grid within an hour, as tenants were typically at work when the energy was produced. This is set to change with the installation of a flow battery, which stores solar energy for use during peak hours when tenants are home—mornings, late afternoons, and early evenings. These are the times when energy usage for cooking, laundry, and other activities spikes, and this shift will have a positive impact on both financial and environmental energy accounts.
“We expect to increase solar utilization from 34% to 57%. This will save us money and reduce our CO2 footprint,” says Pia Hornbæk, Chairwoman of Vivabolig.
A battery is not just a battery
Vivabolig and its tenants share a commitment to contributing positively to sustainability efforts. They have invested in a battery that ensures efficient and flexible use of solar energy while being environmentally friendly and safe to operate.
“We need to use our resources efficiently, and that applies to batteries as well,” says Pia Hornbæk.
The advantages of flow batteries
With a lifespan exceeding 20 years and a recyclability rate of 99%, flow batteries are not only a tool for housing associations like Vivabolig but also a key driver in the transition to sustainable energy systems. These batteries are produced locally in Denmark by VisBlue, a company based in Aarhus.
Since its founding in 2014, VisBlue has specialized in flow battery technology to create, manufacture, and promote a sustainable alternative to conventional battery types on the market.
“As electrification advances, our use of batteries is expected to multiply in the coming years. For the energy transition to succeed, future batteries must be sustainable. I’m thrilled to see a major housing association like Vivabolig leading the way,” says Søren Bødker, CEO of VisBlue.
Another significant advantage of flow batteries is their safety. They are non-flammable and non-explosive, making them ideal for use in densely populated areas such as housing associations, schools, care homes, industrial facilities, and more.
“As a landlord, it’s a huge reassurance to know that the battery cannot catch fire or explode, as we’ve seen happen with other battery types,” adds Pia Hornbæk.
