Challenge
Denmark has decided that Bornholm will play a central role in the green transition as the Baltic Sea's center for offshore wind. The ambition is also for Bornholm to function as a test island for companies, students, and researchers who want to work with climate-friendly solutions for the benefit of growth and development.
To support this ambition, several small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Denmark need help moving forward with innovation projects and development activities, enabling them to support the work of developing Bornholm’s green profile.
Solution
Baltic Energy Island – Increased Innovation Power in SMEs is a project in the second phase of the Bornholm business lighthouse – one of several regional lighthouse projects in Denmark. The project is one of three business lighthouse projects under the lighthouse organization Baltic Energy Island.
In this phase, small and medium-sized enterprises will go through five innovation processes. They will participate in innovation-oriented activities and develop concepts for new products and services that will lead to investments and growth in connection with the billion-dollar investments taking place with Energy Island Bornholm and the further expansion of offshore wind in the Baltic Sea.
The companies' involvement will help make Bornholm a hub for the development, testing, and demonstration of green energy and increase business potential.
To achieve the desired results, the project has assembled a strong consortium of partners, each bringing unique competencies and networks into play.
