About the project

Challenge

Lack of standards for hydrogen infrastructure.

Solution

The overall goal of the project is to develop national guidelines for the documentation requirements of hydrogen infrastructure. The project can be divided into three phases that cover both local and national focus areas, as existing pipelines have different pressure levels and purposes.

The subproject covers phase 1, which involves the Frøslev-Egtved hydrogen pipeline located in Southern Jutland. The pipeline has been a focal point for supporting the export of green hydrogen to Germany, primarily from hydrogen production facilities in Southern Jutland. Therefore, support for the establishment of a hydrogen infrastructure locally here will enable and support other PtX projects in the region. The goal of this project is to bring together all relevant stakeholders in the hydrogen value chain to discuss the necessary and correct requirements for documenting that equipment is suitable for safe service and hydrogen transport. The intention is to discuss these documentation requirements with infrastructure owners, authorities, equipment suppliers, and independent technical institutes to define what will be sufficient and acceptable documentation standards.

The result will be a national guideline (as close to a standard as possible) that will be pressure-tested and approved by all stakeholders in the value chain. The project also includes the prospect of Swedish and German collaboration on standards and regulations, so an international guideline can function together in the future.
