The Energy Cluster's Innovation Roadmap 2024 is ready

Denmark's energy cluster has just published this year's roadmap for climate-friendly technology development in Denmark. The publication will set the direction for all new innovation projects in 2024 and is based on strategic recommendations from Green Power Denmark, the Danish Center for Energy Storage (DaCES) and other industry organizations and knowledge institutions in the energy sector.
AI, cybersecurity, sector coupling, better batteries…
The headings in Energy Cluster Denmark’s Roadmap 2024 are many and encompass development initiatives for the entire Danish energy sector. This year’s roadmap consists of a number of recommendations from the energy cluster’s Innovation Boards, which are made up of the energy sector’s industry organizations and knowledge institutions. The recommendations must be translated into concrete innovation projects and collaborations between companies, researchers and others who can jointly create climate-friendly, competitive energy technologies. This is explained by Glenda Napier, CEO of Energy Cluster Denmark.
“2030, 2045 and 2050 are not far away. Therefore, it is important that we use our time, financial resources and skills in the best possible way when it comes to collaborating on the development and demonstration of the technological solutions that move us in a greener direction. With a number of strong strategic and technological recommendations from our Innovation Boards, we are ready to launch only the most relevant innovation projects during the year,” says Glenda Napier.
From roadmap to innovation projects
The new strategic recommendations encompass the biggest technological challenges that the energy sector wants to solve. Based on the strategic guidelines, Energy Cluster Denmark's board will make the new roadmap operational through concrete innovation projects that Energy Cluster Denmark's members collaborate on.
One of the organizations that has provided recommendations for the energy cluster's work with innovation projects in 2024 is Green Power Denmark. Here, the main headings for energy technology innovation include scaling, industrialization and sector coupling.
"We are in an international competitive situation when it comes to innovation and green technologies, and therefore, in a Danish context, we must focus on our positions of strength and the strategy that has been set for research and development in Denmark. Therefore, the recommendations for the energy cluster are important to us. Now we look forward to seeing projects that drive the strategic agendas forward; collaborations between companies and research institutions that can be implemented for the benefit of the entire industry,” says Jan Hylleberg, Deputy CEO, Green Power Denmark.
Energy storage in focus
The Energy Cluster’s Innovation Boards also involve DI Energi, Synergi, Danish District Heating, the Hydrogen Industry, Danish Offshore and the Danish Center for Energy Storage (DaCES). The latter works strategically with energy storage across knowledge institutions and companies and also contributes to the Energy Cluster’s Innovation Roadmap when it comes to research, demonstration and development within thermal storage, battery technology, Power-to-X, system integration and education.
“For us, a systemic approach to projects and partnerships is crucial for future green successes. For example, we see that energy storage is increasingly in focus for everyone working with the energy system as a key to green transition. We are therefore happy to offer recommendations for the research, development and demonstration that the Energy Cluster facilitates,” says Anne Marie Damgaard, Director of the Danish Center for Energy Storage.
The roadmap has been prepared based on strategic recommendations from Green Power Denmark, DI Energi, Synergi, Dansk Fjernvarme, Hrintbranchen, Dansk Offshore and Dansk Center for Energilagging. The recommendations are published once a year and outline the route for the innovation projects and other innovation activities to be worked on in the partnerships that Energy Cluster Denmark facilitates on behalf of the Danish energy sector.
