Challenge
This project aims to further develop and scale the generator solution originally created in the Deployable Green Power Solution initiative. The "Green Methanol Power Generator" builds upon the insights gained from the previous project, enhancing the technology and system to scale up and meet larger demands, particularly in sectors like construction and civil engineering. The target capacity for these generators is between 45–200 kVA.
Solution
The system in this project is being developed as a modular solution, enabling scalability to address various needs. Specifically, this system will cover capacities of 90 kVA and above, while the solution developed in the "Deployable Green Power Solution" will address requirements below this threshold. A system delivering 90 kVA necessitates entirely different components, such as cooling systems, cabling, inverters, ventilation, and system integration.
The project will continue prioritizing the use of e-methanol to the extent it is feasible and available. By using e-methanol, the system will be prepared for and compatible with future green fuels produced via Power-to-X and renewable energy. The project consortium maintains close dialogue with stakeholders behind the upcoming e-methanol production facilities at the Port of Aalborg. Fuel samples will be provided to the consortium as soon as they become available for testing and evaluation.
Impact
This project specifically targets the construction and civil engineering sector, which accounts for up to 40% of global CO2 emissions. There is a significant need for CO2 and CO2e-neutral solutions to replace these emission sources, which this system is designed to address. The construction industry employs numerous applications and systems that emit substantial amounts of CO2e, with diesel generators being among the major contributors. This system has the potential to significantly reduce emissions without complicating or increasing the cost of the green transition.
