The aim of this subproject is to develop an advanced model based on artificial intelligence that can assist the industry and district heating companies in enabling sector coupling with the electricity grid by predicting energy consumption in the short, medium, and long term.

The work will result in a practical tool based on reliable test data that Power-to-X actors can use to specify, produce, procure, and regulate the rapidly evolving hydrogen infrastructure. Additionally, the project will directly strengthen Denmark’s leadership in the green transition, positioning the country as a global frontrunner in this field.

The project aims to reduce uncertainty and financial risks associated with investing in TDU facilities. This will be achieved through a feasibility study.

High accuracy of energy demand forecasting is essential to realizing sector coupling solutions.

At the end of the project, a cross-border hydrogen valley will have been set up between Finland and Estonia. This ‘main valley’ will be connected to local hydrogen valleys in the Baltic Sea Region.

With help from top industry experts and seasoned founders, as well as Beyond Beta Energy’s investment experts, the accelerator help companies to gear up their startup for rapid scaling and to raise private funding for further innovation – if needed.

DynFlex develops new methods to test and operate individual PtX components and the overall system. This aims to improve the business case for PtX facilities.

The project will aid in quickly and efficiently establishing Digital Twins of production facilities for sector coupling by developing a Digital Twin framework. With the use of the Digital Twin framework developed in this project, the industry can perform what-if scenarios to investigate how activation of process flexibility may propagate through the production, thereby minimizing the risk of bottlenecks, missed deadlines, and low-quality products.

EFW is an evolution of the Living Better concept: www.livingbetter.dk. It also builds upon development work from “ReCo2ST,” a Horizon 2020 project, and “Air Flow Wall,” an Innobooster project—both under the management of Horn Vinduer ApS.

Partners in the GAMMA innovation project are retrofitting a bulk carrier with innovative technologies aimed at reducing the vessel's carbon footprint. The demonstration will prove that it is possible to replace auxiliary generators with a new fuel system operating on e-fuels.

The Gate2GreenFuels project will further develop the test and demonstration platform CCU-Hub Aalborg project at the Port of Aalborg, which in the long term will include the entire value chain for the use of CO2 in the production of sustainable fuels (including methanol as a key component). The project aims, through testing and demonstration activities at and around the Gate2GreenFuels test and demonstration site at the Port of Aalborg, to lay the foundation for decision analysis tools and roadmaps for CCU technologies.

This project aims to further develop and scale a generator solution to meet the growing demands within sectors such as construction and civil engineering.

The INNO-CCUS partnership works to help Denmark achieve its climate goals by ensuring effective carbon capture and storage while developing methods to recycle CO2 as a building block for new materials. Supported by the Innovation Fund Denmark, the partnership comprises more than 80 partners from research institutions, GTS institutes, private companies, and public organizations. Energy Cluster Denmark provides support by facilitating innovation projects, partnerships, communication, and fundraising.

Methanization and Energy Optimization of Biogas and Energy Plants in Southern Denmark

The project aims to reduce the time-to-market for a certified Methanol-to-Jet process, ensuring its availability for SAF production as early as possible. This will complement existing SAF methods and contribute to a rapid and cost-effective transition of aviation fuel consumption away from fossil fuels.

The MTHiO project focuses on the first step in a three-stage process that converts methanol to higher olefins. The project will optimize and demonstrate Methanol to Olefins (MTO) technology to ensure efficient production of the desired olefins.

The OASIS (Offshore Accelerator for System Integration and Storage) project addresses the challenge of increasing innovation capacity and market readiness for SMEs in the North Sea region, specifically within the offshore energy sector. The unpredictable nature of renewable energy makes it necessary to develop smarter and more efficient energy management solutions, which are crucial for supporting affordable energy prices for end-users and showcasing the potential of various offshore renewable energy technologies.

Control Solutions for Stable and Robust Operation of Energy Islands and Cost-Effective Design of Offshore Wind Farms in Integration with Power-to-X.

Activities directly related to the project but expected to occur after the project period include a FID decision on expanding heat delivery capacity to the district heating network from the Kassø Power-to-X facility and the operation of an electric boiler for green district heating production.

The PtX Markets project aims to evaluate the market potential for green hydrogen and fuels and their impact on the European electricity market. The goal is to support the deployment of PtX technologies serving the industrial and transport sectors in Europe.

High-temperature electrolysis is an emerging technology that can halve energy losses, but it is not yet fully matured due to limited operational lifespan. Dynelectro has patented a new operational method that can increase the lifespan from approximately 2 years to up to 10 years, potentially making high-temperature electrolysis the preferred technology for large-scale Power-to-X production.

This project addresses the challenge of acquiring real-time pressure and flow data from several new measurement points in the district heating network, gaining insights with Machine Learning-generated predictive Digital Twins, which further facilitate the operational optimization of sector coupling through adaptive AI control systems.

Ports will play a crucial role in Denmark’s emerging Power-to-X (P2X) industry as storage and transit hubs for e-fuels (green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol). They will act as interfaces between land and sea, different fuels, and industry and local communities, representing the entire value chain. This new scenario introduces risks related to health, safety, and the environment, as well as a need for new competencies. Ensuring safety in port operations within the P2X context is critical, as failure to do so could lead to negative public perception and hinder the adoption of green technologies.

This project aims to accelerate the development of methods and business models necessary to make the right investments in the future energy system, both for industry and society.

If all the straw, manure and biogas residue currently available for energy production was used SkyClean has the potential to produce 30 PJ bio-oil and 30 PJ of syngas pr. year. This would reduce Denmark’s CO2 emissions with 11,3 million tonnes pr. year or 25% of Denmark’s total current emissions.

Project SkyClean builds a pyrolysis plant that heats biological residues in an oxygen-free room and converts the residues into biochar, bio-oil and syngas.

The current transition toward net-zero CO2 emissions requires the shipping industry to adopt new fuels for existing ships and engines. Currently, the availability of new quality fuels is limited compared to the scale of the bunkering market (300 million tons annually). Therefore, it is desirable for available green fuels to be blended into the existing conventional bunker pool. This requires that fuel blends are stable with regard to phase separation, solid precipitation, or sludge formation.

The ULTRA project aims at making Southern Jutland as the centre stage in the fight against global warming by reducing the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of space heating, space cooling and domestic hot water (DHW) applications by above 20 %. This result will be achieved by making reversible CO2 heat pumps “intelligent”, i.e. being capable of performing with very high efficiency all year round thanks to their advanced control system.

Organic Fuel Technology's patented biomass processing system introduces a new Power-to-X pathway, where electricity is converted into biofuels and carbon storage by generating and utilizing a stable and uniform electromagnetic wavelength field.

The WaveFuels II project will test, demonstrate, and optimize Organic Fuel Technology’s technology for microwave cracking products in full scale, thereby making the technology and the solutions it offers ready for full commercialization.
