Challenge
The goal of the project is to support companies and a network connected to Tønder Business Council and stakeholders in Southern Denmark in a design initiative.
The focus is on increasing energy output and payments for energy through methanization and how this will involve local companies.
The objective is to develop a sustainable method for methanizing the CO2 content in biogas and thermal gasification gas within a robust and sustainable concept. This involves utilizing Danish patents from Aarhus University and companies to create a turnkey solution for 1-2 MW biogas plants.
Solution
The solution includes:
- Green electricity supply via local solar/wind producers.
- Design and dimensioning of an electrolysis plant (for hydrogen production).
- Design of plastic columns for biological methanization.
- Concept sketch for an integrated biogas and methanization system.
- Production of technical water based on wastewater sources.
- Method for thermal gasification and drying of biomass materials.
- Project coordination, involvement of local companies, and development of a business model for materials.
Impact
Green electricity sourcing: A report will be prepared on the possibilities of purchasing green electricity, based on both local actors and energy trading companies operating in Denmark and Germany.
Electrolysis plant proposal: Based on the requirements and preferences of LH Bio, Tønder Business Council, and Aarhus University, Xinct Electrolyzers Holland will prepare a proposal with technical and economic key figures for further development.
Industrial design proposal: A concrete industrial design proposal will be provided by A78, including drawings of the structure and modules for the methanization plant.
Concept design for biogas production: A corresponding design proposal for the overall concept targeting 1-2 MW biogas production will be developed, based on Holbæk Bioenergi's facility in Tønder municipality. This task includes combining existing and new components and equipment.
Water purification solution: A cost estimate for a production-scale water purification solution will be prepared, including technical and economic data for agriculture/biogas and wastewater stakeholders. Chemical analyses will be conducted at a test facility. A drying method will also be designed and tested to achieve 50-70% dry matter in biomass for production scale.
Feasibility study for gasification: A feasibility study will be conducted for the implementation of gasification plants on a production scale. This includes analyzing suitable waste products, digested and dried products from biogas plants, and exploring solutions for drying and methanization as described above.
Project coordination: A management and activity plan will be created for project participants and stakeholders. A communication plan will ensure the involvement of member companies and local stakeholders on both sides of the border. A business model will be developed, including financing opportunities, marketing, and economic analysis for individual sub-solutions and the overall concept.
Tønder Business Council will ensure that the same concept is desired for establishment and demonstration under German conditions, extending the development led by Holbæk Bioenergi ApS.
Biogas-Hof-Martensen in Sönnebüll is forming an investor group, including solar and wind stakeholders, for similar development and large-scale demonstration.
In Germany, the work involves biogas plant owners who share similar conditions with several Danish projects. LH Bio serves 6-8 medium-sized Danish biogas plants that will follow the development.
It is important to note that both individual solutions and the overall solution can be commercialized.
