About the project

Challenge

Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a global necessity to mitigate the harmful effects of climate change. While many companies recognize the need for sustainability, they often lack the necessary insights and tools to make well-informed decisions regarding emissions reduction. Existing CO2 calculation and emissions management platforms often do not provide a comprehensive understanding of the consequences of different choices and the potential for emissions reduction within companies.

Solution

The proposed solution aims to overcome these challenges by leveraging industrial LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) databases and combining them with companies' own data to provide precise, customized, and actionable insights. Using advanced data analysis and modeling techniques, this solution will analyze the environmental impact of various choices made (including energy efficiency) and quantify the resulting greenhouse gas emissions.

This insight will enable companies to make informed decisions and understand the potential benefits of alternative choices for emissions reduction.

The key components of this solution include:

  • Integration of industrial LCA databases: Collecting and integrating extensive LCA data from industrial databases covering various sectors, ensuring broad coverage of emissions sources and activities.
  • Integration of company-specific data: The solution will incorporate a company's own data, such as energy consumption, production processes, and supply chain information, to provide a holistic view of their emissions.
  • Advanced data analysis and modeling: Using advanced data analysis and modeling techniques, algorithms will be developed to generate insights, scenario analyses, and emissions forecasts based on different decisions made by the company.
  • Interactive visualization platform: An intuitive and user-friendly platform will be developed to present the results of the analysis, allowing companies to explore various scenarios and understand the potential consequences and benefits of their decisions.
  • Recommendations and best practices: The solution will provide tailored recommendations to guide companies in effective emissions reduction, taking into account their specific circumstances and constraints. This will help companies prioritize their efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Impact

The project aims to bring the technology from TRL 4 (Technology Readiness Level 4) to TRL 6, where a pilot implementation and validation phase can be conducted in collaboration with partner companies.
