Challenge
Previously, different manufacturers in the wind industry had varying requirements for lifting operations during offshore wind turbine installations. This meant that subcontractors had to manage multiple processes differently, despite them being largely identical. These varying requirements cost subcontractors time and money, as training was needed for each specific set of requirements, and working with several different lifting operations also posed certain safety risks.
Solution
The partners in the Lifting Guidelines project gathered experiences and defined common, standardized requirements for safety and lifting in the wind industry. As a result, lifting tasks will now be performed in the same way, regardless of whether it concerns the construction of a wind turbine in one project or another.
Result
Overall, the common guidelines and standards will streamline lifting tasks, improve safety, reduce errors and damage to equipment, and optimize time spent on tasks and crew training. The project has contributed to time savings of 10-15% and increased efficiency for logistics partners in the wind industry.
