About the project
Challenge
The problem was that it was difficult and expensive to achieve the necessary monitoring with the solutions available on the market at that time. This was because you had to break into the multi-core power cables to be able to monitor the energy flows. At the same time, it was difficult to establish effective AI-driven monitoring because the sensors could not be controlled automatically from cloud-based AI solutions. Nevertheless, the estimated global market size for energy monitoring was 18 billion EUR annually and was growing by 7.5% per year.
In short: It was both expensive and technically challenging to achieve the necessary monitoring of multi-core power cables in order to implement AI solutions that could monitor energy flows and realize energy optimizations.
Solution
In this large market, we developed a patented solution that combined clamp-on sensors with cloud-based AI, thus making it possible to monitor the energy flow from the outside of the power cables.
Results
- The basic methods for time synchronization and data exchange were implemented as a software prototype (AU).
- The basic methods for the calibration algorithm, user interfaces, cloud back-end updates, etc. were implemented as a software prototype (ReMoni).
- The solution was tested with end users, and necessary adjustments were prioritized (Expero and DEM).
- The overall solution was implemented, tested and updated to TRL8 (ReMoni) in month 15.
Funding
The project was funded by Energy Cluster Denmark's support program Promoting innovation in green energy technology (FIE), a 3-year support program where small and medium-sized enterprises could collaborate on the development of electronic, innovative products with a focus on energy optimization. The FIE project was supported by the Regional Fund.
