Overall, the project will play a central role in the green transition by delivering a cost-effective and scalable solution for hydrogen production while ensuring the necessary competence development within the industry.

The Battery Storage Concept project develops and tests an initial concept for a container-based energy storage system using batteries (Battery Energy Storage System – BESS).

Ports will play a crucial role in Denmark’s emerging Power-to-X (P2X) industry as storage and transit hubs for e-fuels (green hydrogen, ammonia, methanol). They will act as interfaces between land and sea, different fuels, and industry and local communities, representing the entire value chain. This new scenario introduces risks related to health, safety, and the environment, as well as a need for new competencies. Ensuring safety in port operations within the P2X context is critical, as failure to do so could lead to negative public perception and hinder the adoption of green technologies.

The MTHiO project focuses on the first step in a three-stage process that converts methanol to higher olefins. The project will optimize and demonstrate Methanol to Olefins (MTO) technology to ensure efficient production of the desired olefins.

The current transition toward net-zero CO2 emissions requires the shipping industry to adopt new fuels for existing ships and engines. Currently, the availability of new quality fuels is limited compared to the scale of the bunkering market (300 million tons annually). Therefore, it is desirable for available green fuels to be blended into the existing conventional bunker pool. This requires that fuel blends are stable with regard to phase separation, solid precipitation, or sludge formation.

This project focuses on a detailed part of DAC-FC, specifically the electrodes. By the end of this short concept study, the technology is expected to be elevated to TRL 4, and the results will be compiled into a small report. This is expected to act as a catalyst for a subsequent project aimed at detailing the complete DAC-FC design and constructing a full-scale single cell as the next step.

High-temperature electrolysis is an emerging technology that can halve energy losses, but it is not yet fully matured due to limited operational lifespan. Dynelectro has patented a new operational method that can increase the lifespan from approximately 2 years to up to 10 years, potentially making high-temperature electrolysis the preferred technology for large-scale Power-to-X production.

Greenport Scandinavia builds on the ambitions of the North Jutland business hub CO2Vision and the foundation laid when Project Greensand demonstrated the first CO2 injection on the Danish continental shelf in the North Sea in March 2023.

Activities directly related to the project but expected to occur after the project period include a FID decision on expanding heat delivery capacity to the district heating network from the Kassø Power-to-X facility and the operation of an electric boiler for green district heating production.

The project aims to develop an innovative energy storage solution based on Iron Flow technology, capable of providing reliable, long-duration energy to maritime vessels as well as the power grid using non-toxic, environmentally friendly, cost-effective, and non-flammable iron-based electrolytes.

In the 2nd Life for Power Plants (2LIPP) project, the plants of the past are transformed into tomorrow’s green energy supplies. By equipping old plants with new technology, existing infrastructure such as steam turbines and transformer units can be reused in a green energy supply.

Green hydrogen is one of the most important keys to shifting the transport sector’s dependence on fossil fuels to the use of renewable energy.

The purpose of the collaboration between ATE Denmark and DTU is to improve ATE Denmark’s existing technology for hotspots by achieving better efficiency. Furthermore, the goal of the project is to ensure that production is placed at ATE Denmark in Slagelse.

The INNO-CCUS partnership works to help Denmark achieve its climate goals by ensuring effective carbon capture and storage while developing methods to recycle CO2 as a building block for new materials. Supported by the Innovation Fund Denmark, the partnership comprises more than 80 partners from research institutions, GTS institutes, private companies, and public organizations. Energy Cluster Denmark provides support by facilitating innovation projects, partnerships, communication, and fundraising.
